Tony Gallagher Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

I love music. I play music with people as much as I can. I'm a
photographer by trade, and I love that too. I like to ride either one
of my two vintage Schwinn bikes around town or the Ducati 750
Supersport instead of my cars any day of the week. If you see me on the
streets say, 'what's up T-Bone!'

Hot Summer ~ in Denver

Children play at the park across the street from my studio in the Santa Fe arts district in Denver. There is a summer program (not sure which one) run by the catholic sect. You can see nuns dressed in the order of mother Teressa. This priest was running around and have a great time with the kids. They had a water ballon fight. The priest did not hold back with his aim on the kids. The children retaliated and got him pretty good. They were all having a great time.

Some personal shots taken with my Leica dLux 4 from April and May 2010

I bought the Leica dLux 4 point and shoot to have with me when I walk the streets and travel. It’s so small and inconspicuous that is perfect to have with me at all times (when I remember to grab it).

A morning with Tyler and Logan

Photographing the Brooks brothers along with mom and dad was fun to say the least. Tyler and Logan are paternal twins. It’s very interesting to see how different these little guys personalities are. Photographing little people is totally fun. I love doing this.

an·thro·po·mor·phize:  to ascribe human characteristics to things not human

The works shown are some photographs from my series, Anthropomorphize. With an SX-70 Polaroid SLR (single-lens reflex) camera in hand, I captured this series on Alterimage 600 pack film—now discontinued, but chosen for its color, grain and matte surface.

Max at 10 days old

Max is the beautiful baby boy of Jeanné and Jayme Reed. I had the privilege of photographing Jeanné and Jayme’s Denver wedding last September 2009. Ten days ago Max was born and today I had the awesome opportunity to photograph him. Might I say Max has awesome hair! Congratulations Jeanné and Jayme! This is a sneak preview of more images to come.

Gargoyles in Denver

Gargoyles were viewed two ways by the church throughout history. On one hand gargoyles were used to assist the Church in conveying messages to the common people. Due to literacy being uncommon, images were the best way to constantly convey ideas. Gargoyles were used as a representation of evil. It is thought that they were used to scare people into coming to church, reminding them that the end of days is near. It’s also thought to give them some assurance that evil is kept outside of the church’s walls. They were also used to integrate parts of pagan worship into the Church to make conversion to Catholicism easier.

On the other hand the medieval clergy viewed gargoyles as a form of idolatry. In the 12th century a church leader named St. Bernard of Clairvaux was famous for speaking out against gargoyles.

Rocky Mountain Rollergirls practice ~ a Westword shoot soon to come out

I’ve been working on a Westword story coming out on the 3rd week of February about the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. These girls are tough and sweet.

Riding High (Never Summer may have caught the perfect wave in the snow sports industry) ~ a Westword story

Tim Canaday keeps an old wooden snowboard in his office at the Never Summer Industries factory as a reminder. The board, fit for a history museum, has rubber straps for bindings and metal fins bolted to the tail and midsection, to keep it steady in deep powder. He constructed the board in 1983 for his tenth-grade wood shop class at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, and he’s been thinking about how to build better and better boards ever since.

Read the whole story at the Westword.
